Powerful brakes for weenies with bags of cash

It doesn't matter how pimpy white they are, £400 is a big old wedge to be spending on a set of brake callipers – what’s so special?

Well, weight watchers will be glad to hear that they hit the scales at a feathery 212g – which is well over 20 percent less than Campagnolo’s Super Record D Skeleton brakes (£260).

This new-for-2010 model is a dual calliper design, the arms made from forged and machined magnesium. The hardware is titanium and you get SwissStop Flash pads that are compatible with all rim materials.

Rather than a flippy quick-release lever, you slide the barrel adjuster down the slotted arm to open them up. It’s not quite as easy to use as a standard design but it’s not awkward either and saves a few grams.

TRP haven’t compromised performance in their quest to shave off the grams. We put them on in place of a Dura-Ace set without any noticeable loss of power and control – they’re just that bit lighter.
