It's a pannier, it's a rucksack, it's a bar bag - it's SuperBag!
Comfy, capacious, commuting kit carrier
If you're the sort of rider who thinks that fording a waist deep river in the pouring rain is all part of an ordinary day on the bike, then this is the bag for you. Ortlieb are a German company well known for making waterproof travel and expedition bags. Many cycle messengers also use their quirky roll top model to keep packages dry in transit.
The Mako is a bit longer in the back than the majority of women’s packs we’ve tried. It’s replete with masses of storage space for kit – two full length pockets, three mesh stash pockets, an organiser pocket and a bungee provide homes for everything you could ever need on a day ride. The harness is more than up to the job of supporting a heavy load, but the relatively un-sculpted back gets a bit sweaty under the sun. The bladder is another Nalgene affair – narrow-necked but substantial – which sits in its own sleeve at the back of the main compartment and comes complete with the great magnetic bite valve ‘park’.

Ortlieb have a long heritage of manufacturing waterproof bags and panniers to the highest standards. This is the Flight, their new waterproof rucksack. It's available in two sizes - 22 and 27 litres - and both are large enough for a full day in the saddle.
Weighing in at under a half a kilo, the Ultratrail 12 is part of Vaude's new range of incredibly lightweight yet fully waterproof kit.
Of the two women's rucksacks on test, the Daystar features a superior, truly women specific fit. The harness has a shorter back length and the shoulder straps are comfortably shaped to fit around the bust.
Compared to the Megamouth, the Mako has narrower, more curved shoulder straps that sit securely round female curves.
Pockets. And lots of them. We counted 13: zippered, Velcro tabbed, meshed, the lot. The Megamouth is great looking too.
