Canyon Bikes History

Canyon was founded in 1985 by brothers Roman and Franc Arnold. In the late 1990s, the brand embraced a direct-to-consumer model, selling bikes on the internet, bypassing bike shops and cutting out the middleman.

Canyon produces a comprehensive range of road bikes, mountain bikes, hybrid bikes and just about everything else, including time trial bikes, cyclocross bikes and gravel bikes.

2019 Canyon Road Bikes

For road cyclists there are three different frames available; the endurance-focused Endurace, the aero-optimised Aeroad and an all-round-racer called the Ultimate. There are now disc brake versions of all these bikes. There’s also a cyclocross platform called InFlite and the incredibly polarising Grail gravel bike.

2019 Canyon mountain bikes

For mountain bikers, there’s a wide range available: for the lycra-clad racers, you’ve got an alloy hardtail called the Grand Canyon, the Exceed, a carbon XC-focused hardtail and the Lux, a full-sus XC bike.

On the rowdier end of the spectrum, there’s the Neuron trail bike and the longer-travel model Spectral.

There’s also an enduro model called the Strive, a downhill race bike called the Sender, and a dirt jumping model called the Stitched.

Other Canyon bikes for 2019

For triathletes and time trialists, there’s the Speedmax — a bike ridden to back-to-back wins at the Ironman World Champs in Hawaii by Canyon athlete Jan Frodeno in 2015 and 2016. It’s also the the current choice of four-time world champion Tony Martin.

Finally, for those wanting a day-to-day bike for riding around town, Canyon also produces a smaller range of hybrid bikes: there’s the Canyon Commuter, Urban and Roadlite.

You can’t buy Canyon bikes from a bike shop, only via the Canyon website, or by visiting them in Koblenz.
