UPDATE: Canyon has confirmed that "To date, Canyon US has sent out new chainstays to 100 percent of Spectral owners with serial numbers within the affected range."

Canyon Bicycles has issued a voluntary recall in the US on a small batch of its 2018 Spectral full-suspension mountain bikes.

The recall involves around 820 bikes that use aluminium chainstays, which may crack, and could lead to failure of the chainstay, rear-wheel detachment and pose a crash hazard.

This is a US only process and affects the following models (the exact model number for your bike will be printed on your purchase documents):

  • M71 Spectral CF 9.0 Pro
  • M71 Spectral CF 8.0
  • M53 Spectral AL 6.0
  • M74 Spectral WMN CF 7.0
  • M50 Spectral WMN 6.0

Canyon recommends that customers in the US stop using the recalled bikes immediately and should contact Canyon for a free replacement of the rear triangle.

Outside of the US, Canyon has already contacted all customers direct, and any affected models have been through the warranty process with no outstanding cases that Canyon is aware of.

If you have one of the affected models, visit Canyon direct and click through to the Service & Support page for more information.
