The 6061-T6 Neon Q is light for a mountain bike stem, at 109g for the 80mm length, helped by the use of titanium bolts. While the low weight is a boost on climbs it does translate to a compromise in stiffness. The Neon Q exhibits some torsional flex, which is detectable when standing and mashing on steep climbs rather than as steering deflection on descents.
Element list the Neon Q as suitable for cross-country, enduro and all-mountain use, but its lightweight build pushes it towards cross-country territory. Although we rode this stem for months on Alpine trails and had no strength issues, we’d refrain from pushing the Neon towards heavy trail abuse.
Overall quality is good, combining a matt black anodised, forged main body with contrasting matt silver 38mm-wide CNC-machined faceplate that's neatly milled out to reveal an Element ‘E’ logo. The steerer clamp sheds grams through slotted machining, the titanium bolt heads are neatly rounded and the bar clamp is chamfered and carbon friendly.
