Our review
Straightforward wheelset which lacks major brand glitz but is perfectly serviceable

Raleigh’s Quad isn't a brand you often see on the trails but the range offers reasonable prices. These hoops are a straightforward set of 32-hole eyeletted rims laced to six-bolt disc hubs with standard double-butted spokes; nothing flash but perfectly serviceable.

They’re good if you like to fettle; stripping the hubs down to the sealed bearings is a case of wielding a pair of 5mm hex keys. This gives easy access to the freehub body and six-pawl ratchet ring, which gave good pick-up during testing despite only having five pawls in it.

The rims are 24mm wide, which makes mid-volume tyres up to 2.3in usable without too much rolling. It also stops smaller treads, such as our favourite Bontrager Mud X 1.9in ones, becoming unusably spread on the bead.

Being built in Nottingham should raise the Quad in the estimation of UK homebodies. So should the fact they stayed true during testing. There are 20mm axle front and white paint options too.
