Our review
Surefooted, multipurpose tire that delivers the goods no matter what you put in front of it

Schwalbe’s Magic Mary may look like a cut-down mud tire, but it’s deceptively versatile in a wide range of conditions. It’s already proven its worth on the race circuit, where its grippy tread, tacky VertStar compound and tough Super Gravity casing have helped secure a slew of DH and enduro victories.

Our test sample weighed in at 1,120g and blew up tubeless easily with a floor pump. Throughout a full year of testing, the carcass has shrugged off everything we’ve thrown at it, staving off tears and not once letting us down. And the square center tread blocks and aggressive side knobs really let you push the tire hard, especially in softer conditions, where it sheds mud well thanks to the wide tread spacing.

On flatter trails, the soft compound rubber isn’t the fastest rolling, but the huge amount of grip on offer gives the tire a confidence inspiring feel on pretty much everything, including wet roots and rocks. A year on, our test tire is now reluctant to stay inflated tubeless though.
