The price may be high but the ride feel and reliability of the ROAM 60s make them true carbon contenders

Scream into a tricky section of trail and it doesn’t take long for the stiff construction of SRAM’s ROAM 60 wheels to become apparent.

They handle off-camber sections, large jumps and rock gardens littered with square-edged hits with ease, giving you the confidence to really load the bike on take-offs and through turns, safe in the knowledge that things will remain controlled and precise.

Performance is helped further by the fact that they weigh just 1,620g. And any concerns over the carbon rims being too stiff on really rough stuff were quickly put to rest. Yes, they’re stiff, but feedback through the bar isn’t excessive – there’s just enough to let you know what the front tyre is doing beneath you.

Quick pick-up from the rear hub gives an impressive responsiveness when you get on the gas. Maintenance is straightforward, and six months in we’ve only had to replace one bearing and the rims are still as straight and true as when they started out.

The UST rim makes seating tubeless tyres relatively hassle free. The 21mm internal width gives a decent profile with 2.35in tyres, but a little extra width wouldn’t go amiss, especially for more aggressive riders.
