e*thirteen first dipped their toes into the all-mountain, ‘burly but light’ waters with their TRS products last year. Recently, they’ve been back in the lab, and for 2014 have come up with the TRS-R line – finely fettled, race-specific variants missing only a number board and one final energy gel. Pricing and availability are to be confirmed.

Wheels

The new TRS-R wheels are now 5 percent lighter (1,560g per pair) and 30 percent stiffer than the TRS variants. The angular contact bearings the hubs spin on help a lot with stiffness and perceived strength; each bearing is supported by a thicker bearing race, helping to dissipate axial and radial loads.

The wheels feature 60 percent lighter, Chub-derived, oversized hubs, which also have a new XD driver for SRAM XX1 use and can be retrofitted to TRS wheels.

Chain device

Also new is the LG1-R chain device, which features a carbon-fibre backplate along with the plastic guides of the current model. e*thirteen claim the device is now an incredible 25 percent stronger than the existing model, while also being 30g lighter.

The company also have the TRS-R Dual Guide for people who run 2x10 setups. It features a carbon guide and roller-equipped lower guide.

Pedals

The LG1-R pedals benefit from a new titanium axle, improved seals for less resistance, and alloy pins. They also feature swappable plastic bodies in a range of colours.

Crankset

The new e*thirteen TRS-R crankset is available in double and single ring setups, both with the new Guidering M stepped chainring. The TRS-R features the polygonal P3 Connect crank spindle and APS preload system but weight has been dropped thanks to the removal of some excess material.
