Halfords is planning to open new cycling-only stores in London, and in doing so, resurrect its Cycle Republic brand, which was last seen in 2009.

These new specialist stores, the first of which will open in autumn at Euston Tower in central London, aim to cater for 'cyclists in the busiest commuter areas'.

The outlets will offer exclusive premium editions, the Boardman range of bikes, spare parts, accessories and clothing. There will also be mechanics on site to help with maintenance and servicing.

This announcement follows some good financial results for Halfords, including a 21.3 percent increase in its first quarter for like for like sales this year, and a 35.1 percent increase in premium bike sales.

Cycle Republic director, Peter Kimberley, said: “We have the opportunity to bring something different to the marketplace in central London – new and unique ranges for urban cyclists and an expert team offering servicing and repairs.

“Our new stores will offer range, expertise and convenience, helping to make cycling more accessible to Londoners, and supporting more people getting on their bikes.”

Further Cycle Republic stores are due to open across London in spring.
