If you’re already shopping by bike, then have a high-five from us. If not, that’s okay, but there’s a new product on the market that might change things for you.

Created by lifestation.ch, the Bikcarry ONE is a trolley that connects to your seatpost and follows your bike like any other trailer. The big difference here is that once you reach your destination, you can quickly disconnect it, flip the handle, and wheel it into the shops with you.

Convenient bike luggage

The Bikcarry ONE is all about convenience. It’s designed to be quick and simple to use with a tool-free universal mounting system, so you can clip it on, ride, unclip and go. Plus, when it’s not in use, it folds flat for easy storage at home.

The trolley is constructed from a steel frame and durable, waterproof fabric, so bad weather shouldn’t be off-putting.

There are also several well thought-out details that make it specifically geared towards cycling, such as the loop for a rear light and the reflective detailing on the back.

What’s wrong with panniers?

While many of us already use panniers when shopping by bike, there’s definite appeal here for riders who are new to the idea.

And while most racks can take a similar weight — 25kg — having all that heft over the rear wheel can cause your bike to feel unstable.

Instead, with the load wheeling itself behind you, your bike continues to handle in the way that you expect, which is great for people who want to start cycling to the shops for the first time.

Shopping by bike

The Bikcarry ONE is designed just like a personal trolley: free-standing, with a 65L capacity and has two compartments to separate light and heavy goods. The idea is to encourage more people to do their shopping by bike, which in turn reduces their carbon emissions and supports their local economy.

Load it as you shop and pack it at the checkouts, and you no longer need plastic bags. You’re also less likely to accidentally buy more than you can carry.

With its Kickstarter campaign being fully-funded within 48 hours of its launch, it’s clear that there’s a market for this kind of solution. It might not be to everyone’s taste, but there’s definitely great potential.
