The Crud Catcher was a landmark product for mountain biking in the UK and is now in its ninth iteration, and at a very reasonable price too.
The classic catcher attaches easily to your down tube with a pair of rubber O-rings. However, some frames’ down tubes don’t match up that well with the three mounting points, so it can be tricky to fix it on tight enough.
The dual-shot moulding means you get a soft rubber around the top edge, but it’s difficult to get the guard right up close to the fork crown, so some mud flicks through. There’s a small Crud logo in soft rubber on the outside to sit against your down tube and stop it rubbing.
