Our review
A useful solution for carrying trail necessities, if it fits your frame

Pros:

Even on rough trails, the cage holds bottles securely; the multi-tool will get you out of most emergencies

Cons:

It doesn’t fit all frame designs; the toolbox can be fiddly to remove from its mount

Topeak's Master Z bottle cage and Ninja Toolbox T16 multi-tool clip together to give a useful way to carry two essentials, providing your bike has space under the cage.

I found this to be a problem on some frames with vertically-mounted shocks, where the shock or rocker link hit the tool when the suspension compressed. So check that you’ve got enough clearance before shelling out for this little lot.

Once fitted, the cage does a reliable job of holding a bottle securely. It’s easy enough to access the bottle and, should you require a side-entry cage, Topeak offers one for the same price.

The tool is housed in its own little toolbox, which can be a little awkward to install and remove, due to its single-sided release button. But once clipped in, it stays in place.

That said, the QuickClick mount isn’t the most solid-feeling design. The Ninja tool has 16 functions to cover most trailside issues, including 2 to 8mm Allen keys, Torx keys, screwdrivers and a chain tool.

Its compact size does make loosening tight bolts trickier, and some awkwardly-located fittings can be hard to reach. The chain tool is compatible with the latest 12-speed chains, and a chain hook is included.

  • Toolbox T16 Multi Tool: £37
