Scores well on looks but the unyielding ride won’t appeal to all

Swiss outfit BMC serve up another of their innovative, distinctive-looking machines in the form of the BMC Roadracer SL02. Coming in at the top of the 2011 Bike of the Year price range, it has a Shimano 105 groupset and DT Swiss R1800 wheels.

The ride is solid and handling suitably reassured and predictable. But while BMC’s unique frame design – with its ultra-short seatstays – is claimed to make their bikes as comfortable as possible, our testers found that after a couple of hours in the saddle you really do start to feel it through your backside. We reckon this bike is one that’s best suited to smooth surfaces or those who like firm-riding machines.
