Giro’s classy-looking Outsider gloves certainly aren’t cheap but they are extremely comfortable on the bike.
That lofty price comes courtesy of the perforated leather upper and the vented Pittards leather palm, which is thin and super-soft.
Like the upper, it’s also ventilated, making the Outsider gloves a great choice for riding in when the temperatures are creeping up.
Shaping and fit across the hand are great, but the fingers – on my hands at least – were a fraction long and could bunch up a little, though not uncomfortably, when gripping the bar.
Although the palm isn’t a one-piece affair, it’s so soft and thin that you can’t feel the stitches joining the panels together. There’s some subtle padding on the outer edge at the base of the palm, which adds a little cushioning if you grip the bar right at the end of the grips.
The stretchy, strapless cuff helps bolster comfort further and keeps wrist movement unrestricted, plus it means there’s no Velcro to snag jersey sleeves. A microfibre snot wipe on the thumb finishes them off nicely.
While they’re no bargain, the Outsiders are really well made and extremely comfortable, which does go a long way.
