Helly Hansen Charger Half-Zip Base Layer review

A good base layer is essential for cold weather riding; everyone should own at least one. The base layers from Norwegian outdoor clothing masters Helly Hansen have been some of our favourites since the dawn of biking and this, the Charger Half-Zip base, is another great garment out of their stable.

A good base layer is essential for cold weather riding; everyone should own at least one. The base layers from Norwegian outdoor clothing masters Helly Hansen have been some of our favourites since the dawn of biking and this, the Charger Half-Zip base, is another great garment out of their stable.

Instead of having a crew neck, the Charger has a zipper and a high collar that comes into its own on those really nippy days when keeping the draft out is necessary. We really like this feature, which also means that, with the zip down, this base layer is great for use on its own on milder days.

The HH Dry LIFA material draws the sweat away from your skin quickly and effectively and lets it evaporate into the air, keeping you comfortable at all times - even when you're burning up and sweating madly. This is thanks, in part, to its super close-fitting cut, which is just how a good base layer should be.
