Very tidy solution to fixed front braking

Running a front brake on a fixed wheel bike is a good thing for safety’s sake, the only downside being you can normally only brake with one hand. The bar-top-mounted Shot, though, has two levers so can be used with either hand (especially useful when signalling).

The larger lever on the right pushes the brake cable outer, the mini lever on the left pulls the inner cable; both actions have the effect of applying the brake.

Dia-Compe stress this lever is a ‘sub-braking’ system for track bikes and therefore shouldn’t be used as the sole means of slowing down, but although performance isn’t the same as a normal brake setup, it still offers enough power to stop.

All in all, it’s a great little product that makes riding a fixed safer. At £40 it’s a lot for what is essentially a brake lever, but it’s beautifully made and easy to fit and set up. The clamp size is 26mm, but reducers to 22.2mm are included in the box.
