Prologo’s Proxim saddle design is the result of research undertaken by the Polytechnic University of Milan, which used feedback from a broad spectrum of riders. While it’s being marketed as an ebike-specific saddle, I think that Prologo has produced a slick-looking seat with a superbly comfortable design that’ll work on any bike.
The Proxim W400 is underpinned by a carbon-infused hull and T2.0 titanium-alloy rails. This ‘performance’ model is 153mm wide and 255mm long (a trekking version at 163mm wide is also available).
The hull itself is split into three ‘zones’ (the padding mirrors this design), with each section offering different levels of flexibility. The tip of the nose can flex more than the slender mid-section, with the heel of the saddle offering lateral flex too.
The result is a saddle that feels stable through its spine, but with the broad wings on its rear section moving freely with you as you pedal. The flex in the nose means little friction or discomfort when you’re riding sitting forward and motoring along.
The hull flex is matched by the high-density of the mid-section padding, while the nose-tip and rear have a more supple pad of softer density. The design of the padding also leaves a large dipped channel throughout the length of the saddle making this exceptionally comfortable for more upright riding positions. It’s on my commuter bike and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
Its ebike association comes from the hull having a reinforced handle on the back of the saddle (with a neat reflective insert) to help you lift a hefty ebike, though, to be honest, it’s handy for any bike. This reinforcement doesn’t have a detrimental effect on the weight as it’s a very reasonable 257g.
In all, this is a very versatile mid-length saddle with a great shape, clever padding and supreme comfort levels. It’s best suited to more upright ride positions and I’d recommend it for commuters and endurance riders alike.
With Prologo marketing it as an ebike saddle, I think they may have created a hidden gem.
