Tour de France winner Chris Froome will publish an autobiography before he makes a defence of his title in Yorkshire in 2014.

The book, titled The Climb, will chart the Team Sky rider's journey from mountain biking in Kenya, where he was born, how he overcame the death of his mother shortly before his Tour de France debut in 2008, his rivalry with Bradley Wiggins at the 2011 race and how he become Tour champion last year.

Froome said: “I hope that this book will give people a bit of insight into me and my obstacle-ridden journey to the top, and inspire them to push on despite any challenges they may face in achieving their own goals.”

The book will be written in collaboration with David Walsh, author of Seven Deadly Sins.

The book will be published by Viking Press in hardback in June, just before the Tour's Yorkshire grand depart.
