What's worse than cruising somewhere on your bike, rolling up to the bike rack, and then realizing you left your bike lock at home or on a different bike? Well, there's actually a whole slew of worse things, but forgetting your bike lock is definitely annoying. With the mildly clever named Seatylock, forgetting your bike lock is impossible.

A commuter's ideal

After a successfully backed Kickstarter campaign, Seatylock is producing two versions of its seat/lock combo, the smaller, lighter Trekking and the more cushioned Comfort version. Both feature the same one meter long folding lock.

With a 1.3kg (2.9lbs) weight and a wide, soft saddle, the Seatylock is marketed for trekking, commuter, and comfort bikes - Russell Eich / Immediate Media

Fitting the Seatylock to a bike looks to be relatively simple. The base uses the same two seat rails that practically all bicycle seatposts use.

The lock is one meter long which should be enough to secure the frame and front wheel of most bikes - Russell Eich / Immediate Media

The Seatylock base, lock and seat does add height so at best, you'll have to lower your seatpost. At worst, you might have to cut a bit off the end of the post, depending on the seatpost length and the bike frame.

Another benefit in high-crime areas is the fact the saddle is part of the lock so there's one less thing for thieves to steal.

Seatylocks are available now at its site and at select retailers.
